Arnold Ernst Toht was a Major for the German Army. He leaded a group of soldiers that attacked Marion in a bar before being defeated by Indy. He, along with Colonel Dietrich and René Emile Belloq, were killed by the Holy Fire erupting from the Ark of the Covenant. In the movie, Toht's death is gruesome, as his face melts as he stares into the Ark. He was played by Ronald Lacey.

[edit] In LEGO Indiana Jones
Toht appears in LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. In the mission Into the Mountains he fights Indiana Jones and Marion and is defeated even though he got help from his sherpas. Toht sits on the Medallion and his butt sets on fire. He dies when the ink on his face gets melted. Once you beat the Into the Mountains level in Raiders of the Lost Ark, you will be able to purchase him for 50,000 studs. After being defeated, Toht accidentaly sits on the burning headpiece and runs away, screaming in pain, from the bar. He later appears when he throws Marion down in the Well of Souls to trap her down there with Indy. He is also in the car that Indy forces out of the road in Pursuing the ark. His last appearance is in Opening the Ark where he aims a gun at Indy and is later killed by looking at the ghosts coming from the Ark. Toht and his wife, Carla.
[edit] Boss Battle
The battle against Toht is a very easy one since he's the first boss of the game. This battle has 3 parts but Toht only appears in 2 of them. In the first part, Toht will send in his sherpas to defeat Indy but he won't fight himself. Neither Indy or Marion can punch him or use the whip against him here since he will only run away when anyone of them tries so the only way to hurt him is to throw things at him. After two hits, He'll stop running away and will try to defeat Indy with his bare hands. One punch will take care of him though and he'll run away again.
It's pretty much the same thing for the second part of the battle except that the boss is a Sherpa Gunner this time and he is much more dangerous as he can shoot Indy. The biggest challenge in this battle is all the Sherpas that tries to kill Indy and Marion. Indy & Marion could build a shelter from two tables to shield themselves from the bullets. Indy & Marion had to throw things at the gunner just like in the fight against Toht and when he only has one heart left, he'll start to run around but will still shoot at the heroes. One punch would defeat him though and the third part of the battle would continue.
Toht will come back for the third part to fight Indy one last time. This part is exactly as the first except that toht has a gun now and will shoot at Indy. he'll go down pretty quickly now that the player knows his pattern from the first part of the battle
